Woodland Meadows Recycling and Disposal Facility (RDF) is a regional facility that provides safe and convenient disposal services for communities, businesses and industries serving Metro Detroit and surrounding areas. WM has invested millions of dollars to develop Woodland Meadows as a modern landfill with a state-of-the-art landfill gas collection and delivery system, allowing them to harness the renewable energy potential of solid waste.
Containment Design + Leachate Collection & Treatment
Woodland Meadows RDF utilizes a containment system comprised of a 10 foot natural clay barrier with a 2-foot thick re-compacted clay liner or geo-synthetic clay liner (GCL), a 60-mil high density polyethylene (HDPE) liner, a 16 ounce protective geotextile cushion and a leachate collection system. Leachate is managed onsite and is discharged to a local Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP).
Landfill Gas Management
Woodland Meadows RDF collects and manages landfill gas through an extensive flare system, which reduces emissions and minimizes odor. In addition, methane is recovered from the landfill gas and used as fuel at a local auto assembly plant.
